From Crypto Custody and Trading to Staking: Interactive Brokers Expands Its Reach
Interactive Brokers (Nasdaq: IBKR), a global automated brokerage powerhouse, made its initial foray into the cryptocurrency industry in 2021 and has steadily broadened its ambitions ever since. Following a partnership with Paxos that year, IBKR opened the door for customers to trade bitcoin (BTC), ether, litecoin (LTC) and bitcoin cash (BCH).
Two years later, the brokerage extended its cryptocurrency services to Hong Kong before pushing further into the European Economic Area in 2026. Tuesday’s announcement expands upon IBKR’s crypto ventures with staking services provided by Zerohash. Interactive Brokers says clients can choose to stake or unstake their ETH and track their requests.
Any rewards they earn are automatically added to their staked holdings, allowing them to earn additional rewards over time. “Similar to how our Stock Yield Enhancement Program allows clients to earn additional income on shares they own, staking gives clients an opportunity to earn rewards on the cryptocurrency they own,” Interactive Brokers’ CEO Milan Galik remarked on Tuesday.
The IBKR executive added:
“We want clients to earn more from the assets they hold.”
Institutional Crypto Staking Adoption Grows
Staking has emerged as a central component of cryptocurrency strategies pursued by several companies throughout 2026. In August, the financial giant BNY (Bank of New York Mellon) partnered with Galaxy Digital to launch crypto staking services. Last week, Bitgo Bank & Trust extended Lido staking to U.S. clients after a European and Asian rollout the year before.
Zerohash unveiled its staking-as-a-service (StaaS) offering for banks and brokerages in June 2026, identifying Interactive Brokers and Public.com among the companies associated with the StaaS initiative.
